To review:
The mechanism through which an ion enters a root hair and moves to the xylem.
Introduction:
Ions are transported from the root hair toward the xylem through three main pathways, which are apoplastic, symplastic, and transmembrane. Roots take up ions by active transport. The transport is called active because it transports the molecules against the concentration gradient in order to move the ions and molecules. Energy is utilized by the cells in the form of ATP (adenosine triphosphate).
