Invertebrate animal lacks the vertebral column and it includes arthropods, mollusks, annelids, and Porifera. Biologist hypothesized evolution of animal from a common ancestor of colonial, a flagellated protist. Through molecular sequencing techniques, they can also identify the key morphological innovations responsible for the evolution of animal.
