Concept explainers
Interpretation:
The structures of compounds that are given in molecular model form are to be drawn, wedges and dashes is to be used to show stereochemistry.
Concept introduction:
Molecular model of the chemical compound represents the three-dimensional arrangement of the atoms and bonds between them. The atoms are represented by sphere and connected by rods which represent the bonds.
There are three types of lines used in the line–wedge–dash structure that are represented in three-dimensional form.
Wedges represent the bonds toward viewer, dashes represent the bonds away from the viewer, and solid lines represent the bonds in the plane of the image.
In stereochemistry, the study of atoms takes place by the arrangement of atoms in three-dimension.

- Write an acceptable IUPAC name for the compound below.arrow_forwardCompounds X and Y both have the formula C7H14. Both X and Y react with one molar equivalent of hydrogen in the presence of a palladium catalyst to form 2-methylhexane. The heat of hydrogenation of X is greater than that of Y. Both X and Y react with HCI to give the same single C₂H₁5Cl compound as the major product.
