Interpretation:
The total yield of ATP molecules that ultimately result from further processing of the products from the second turn of the β-oxidation pathway through the common
Concept introduction:
ATP is the currency of energy. It is a molecule that stores energy for carrying out vital activities in the body. ATP molecules can be generated by mainly three processes, which are glycolysis, the citric acid cycle, and β-oxidation. The β-oxidation process involves breaking down long fatty acid chains that have been converted to acyl CoA chains into smaller fatty acyl CoA chains. The end products of this metabolic process are acetyl CoA, FADH2and NADH.
