Chapter 24.5, Problem 4P
Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation:

The structure for the given compound should be drawn.

Concept Introduction:

Glycerol:

The catabolism of fat which actually contain 3 RCOOR groups is hydrolyzed and forms glycerol and long chain unbranched carboxylic acid with even number of carbons.

Glycerol is polyol compound and its structure is as follows, which is actually the base of all lipids.

Adenosine triphosphate ATP: The main job of ATP is to store energy and release it when cell is in need of energy.

Kinase: It is enzyme which serves as a catalyst in reaction of transferring phosphoryl group into the substrate.

Substrate: The molecule where the reaction takes place with help of enzymes.

R and S nomenclature: it is used to assign the molecule using CIP rules.

The CIP rules are as follows:

Select the chiral carbon and assign the numbers according to the decreasing atomic mass of atoms attached to it.

If the numbering follows clockwise direction then the molecule is termed as R and if it follows anti-clockwise direction then molecule is termed as S.
