The mechanism for the reaction of galactose with ATP to form galactose-1-phosphate should be drawn.

Concept Introduction:

Glycolysis: It is pathway which describes conversion of one molecule of glucose into two molecules of pyruvate.  The series involves 10 reactions.

Galactose: It is a compound with same chemical formula as glucose and it is a naturally occurring monosaccharide.  Glucose and galactose differ in the position of one hydroxyl group.  The metabolism of galactose is done by converting it to glucose-1-phosphateandthentoglucose-6-phosphate

Gluconeogenesis: The reaction in which glucose is synthesised from pyruvate.

NAD+Molecule: It is the oxidized form of Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) which exists in all cells and needed for activation of enzymes.

NADHmolecule: It is coenzyme which gets oxidized on reducing another compound. The oxidized form of NADHisNAD+.
