The three reactions in citric acid cycle that are similar to the first three reactions of $\beta -oxidation$ of the fatty acid has to be determined.

Concept Introduction:

• The citric acid cycle includes a series of oxidation-reduction reactions in mitochondria that results in the oxidation of an acetyl group to two molecules of carbon dioxide and reduce the coenzymes that are reoxidized through the electron transport chain, linked to the formation of ATP
• $\beta -oxidation$ is the repetitive series of biochemical reactions that degrades fatty acids to acetyl-CoA by removing two carbon atoms at a time.
