Interpretation Introduction

(a)

Interpretation:

The relationship between glucose and mannose is to be stated as they both give same osazone.

Concept Introduction:

Aldose are the carbohydrates which contains aldehyde as functional group. Osazone are formed when carbohydrates reacts with excess of phenylhydrazine. In osazone formation the stereochemistry of C1 and C2 carbons is lost. Epimers are those compounds which differ in configuration at only one carbon.

Interpretation Introduction

(b)

Interpretation:

The aldopentose that gives the same osazone as D arabinose is to be stated.

Concept Introduction:

Aldose are the carbohydrates which contains aldehyde as functional group. Osazone are formed when carbohydrates reacts with excess of phenylhydrazine.
