Chapter 23, Problem 23.30P
Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation:

The chemical equation for the hydrolysis of glucose-1-phosphate to form glucose and HPO42- and the change in the energy of the reaction is to be determined.

Concept introduction:

The term hydrolysis refers to a chemical reaction that takes place when water ruptures one or more chemical bonds. In the case of biological hydrolysis, the cleavage of biomolecules takes place in such a way that the larger molecules and break down into smaller ones.

Catabolism of the food takes place via a number of biochemical pathways. Some reactions may release energy while some reactions are caused due to the absorption of energy. The energy which is released by one reaction is used to derive some other reactions.
