Introduction:
Carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, vitamins, and minerals are five main categories of nutrients. Carbohydrates, proteins, and lipids are categorized as macronutrients as they are required by the body in large quantities, in order to meet the energy needs. On the other hand, vitamins and minerals are categorized as micronutrients as they are required by the body in small quantities. Vitamins perform different functions in the body, which include synthesis of hormones, enzyme cofactors, and acting as antioxidants.
