Chapter 23, Problem 1CYU
Summary Introduction

To review:

The analogy that states “exercise burns fats.”

Introduction:

In the body, fats are stored as triglycerides. The term “triglycerides”indicates the presence of three hydrocarbon chains that are attached to glycerol (a modified sugar). The oxidation of glycerol and fatty acid molecules leads to the liberation of energy. Glycerol is first converted into glyceraldehydes-3-phosphate, which is an intermediate of the glycolytic cycle. The fatty acids are broken down during the beta-oxidationprocess, in which acetyl coenzyme A (CoA) and ketone bodies areproduced.
