Concept explainers
To explain: If it is important to convert temperatures to the Kelvin scale when we use Newton’s law of cooling.
Explanation of Solution
Introduction:
According to Newton’s law of cooling, the heat lost by a body is directly proportional to the temperature difference between the body and its surrounding.
Since, difference between the two temperature needs to be calculated, conversion from degree Celsius to kelvin is not required. This is because, the difference between any two temperatures in Celsius and kelvin scale is the same. However, if the temperature is given in degree Fahrenheit, a conversion will be required. This because the difference between any two temperatures in Fahrenheit and kelvin scale is not the same.
Conclusion:
A conversion from degree Celsius to kelvin will not be required but a conversion from degree Fahrenheit to kelvin will be required.
