To explain: The different intensity of glowing bulbs in the above two solutions, one having the pH value 10 and having pH value 12.
Explanation of Solution
Introduction:
Acid and base dissociate to give ions in aqueous solution. Due to dissociation and formation of ions, acid and basic solutions are good conductor of heat and electricity. In such cases, these solutions are defined as electrolytes. Strong electrolytes are those which dissociate to a larger extent with respect to weak electrolytes.
For the given solutions, pH value is more than 7 thus, both the solutions are basic in nature. The comparison is done based on hydroxide ions in the solution. The more the pH, more basic will be the solution. Thus, solution with pH 12 will have a greater number of hydroxide ions than pH 10. Due to larger hydroxide ions in the solution with pH 12, it will act as a stronger electrolyte than solution with pH value 10. Also, in comparison, solution with pH 12 will be a strong base and solution with pH 10 will be a weak base. Therefore, light bulb glows with more intensity in the solution with pH value 12.
Conclusion:
Thus, light bulb glows with more intensity in the solution with pH value 12.
