Concept explainers
Interpretation:
The open-chain structure of a ketotriose has to be drawn and the optical activity also has to be explained.
Concept introduction:
Monosaccharides are organic molecules that have a general formula of
Ketotriose is a three carbon sugar in which a keto group is present.
Optical activity of a molecule is the interaction between molecule and plane-polarized light.
Molecule having asymmetric center shows optical activity except mesocompounds (Mesocompounds have a plane of symmetry in there structure.).
Asymmetric center is a stereocenter which arises to hydrocarbons if the carbon is bonded to four different groups.
