Chapter 19, Problem 32P
Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation:

The number of molecules of acetyl-CoA from the β-oxidation of a 16-carbon saturated fatty acyl-CoA should be determined.

Concept Introduction:

Glycolysis: It is pathway which describes conversion of one molecule of glucose into two molecules of pyruvate. The series involves 10 reactions.

NAD+Molecule: It is the oxidized form of Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) which exists in all cells and needed for activation of enzymes.

NADHmolecule: It is coenzyme which gets oxidized on reducing another compound. The oxidized form of NADHisNAD+.

β-oxidation: It is a four-step pathway by which fatty acyl-CoA is converted to acetyl-CoA. Removal of two carbons occurs from the fatty acyl-CoA when passing through each series and the four reactions are catalysed by four different enzymes.
