Subacute sclerosing panencephalitis (SSPE) is a chronic and rare form of brain inflammation caused by the measles virus. This virus mostly affects the children and young adults. The measles virus is a single-stranded, enveloped, negative-sense RNA virus. Measles virus belongs to the genus Morbilivirus and the family Paramyxoviridae. The condition is characterized by certain signs and symptoms such as behavioral changes and mental deterioration (affecting thinking, memory, judgement and language)
