1,25-hydroxyvitamin D3 is the active form of vitamin D3. 1,25-hydroxyvitamin D3 is produced in the kidneys from 25-hydroxyvitamin D3, which is a derivative of vitamin D, produced by the skin. 1,25-hydroxyvitamin D3 is also known as calcitriol. It is involved in regulating the blood calcium levels.
