Chapter 19, Problem 33RA
Summary Introduction

To review:

The following:

1. The role of GLUT4 (glucose transporters) in glucose metabolism.

2. The mechanism by which exercise aids in controlling type II diabetes mellitus.

Introduction:

Glucose is the main source of energy for all the cells and excess of blood glucose is stored in the form of glycogen in the liver and skeletal muscles. This stored glucose is utilized when the blood glucose level lowers down. Insulin and glucagon hormones regulate the blood glucose level. Insulin stimulates a decrease in the glucose level to the normal range whereas glucagon increases the blood glucose concentration.

Mutations in glucokinase which lower the kcat for the enzyme or elevate the Km for glucose result in mild to moderate elevation of blood glucose. Explain how these mutations cause diabetes-like symptoms in patients.
Please give an easy to understand step by step explanation to diagram By including the skeletal muscle metabolism in the explaination.
This is a question assigned after reading the case study available here https://sciencecases.lib.buffalo.edu/files/statins.pdf HMG CoA reductase is activated by insulin signaling, and inhibited by glucagon signaling. Explain why insulin resistance and type II diabetes often are accompanied by elevated cholesterol levels.
