Similar to amines, alcohols also can be classified as 1°, 2°, or 3° by the number of alkyl groups bonded to the carbon atom, which is connected to the OH group.
Ethers are the compounds containing oxygen bound to two carbon atoms (alkyl groups). In aldehydes and ketones, oxygen is bound to a carbon atom via a double bond.

Amines have basic properties, meaning they can act as proton acceptors.
