Concentration of hydrogen ions and pH for a buffer solution of HC2H3O2 and sodium acetate  has to be calculated.

Concept Introduction:

The species formed by dissociation of acid into ions with a loss of hydrogen ion is termed as conjugate base. It has power to accept proton in a reaction.

Solution that causes resistance in change of pH due to dilution or addition of acid is termed as buffer solution. Two types of buffer solutions are as follows:

1 Weak acid mixed with salt of its conjugate base

2 Weak acid mixed with salt of its conjugate acid
