Concept explainers
(a)
Interpretation:
Whether triacylglycerol is a hydrolyzable lipid or not has to be identified.
Concept Introduction:
Lipids that contain an ester group that reacts with water are termed has hydrolyzable lipids. For example phospholipids, phospholipids and waxes.
Non-hydrolyzable lipids are those that cannot be hydrolyzed by water to form smaller units. They contain fat-soluble vitamins such as A, D, E, and K or steroids and do not have functional groups such as ester in it.
(b)
Interpretation:
Whether vitamin A is a hydrolyzable lipid or not has to be identified.
Concept Introduction:
Refer to part (a).
(c)
Interpretation:
Whether lecithin is a hydrolyzable lipid or not has to be identified.
Concept Introduction:
Refer to part (a).
(d)
Interpretation:
Whether cholesterol is a hydrolyzable lipid or not has to be identified.
Concept Introduction:
Refer to part (a).
