Chapter 13.8, Problem 13.26P

a.

Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation:

Ammonium salt, (CH3NH3)+Cl has to be named.

Concept Introduction:

Amines are basic in nature.  Product obtained when amine reacts with acid is known as ammonium salts.  They are soluble in water.  Amine forms the conjugate acid while the acid forms the conjugate base.  In order to obtain name of an ammonium salt, the suffix “-amine” present in the parent amine name is changed to “-ammonium” and the anion name is added as a separate word.

b.

Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation:

Ammonium salt, [(CH3CH2CH2)2NH2]+Br has to be named.

Concept Introduction:

Refer part “a.”.

c.

Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation:

Ammonium salt, [(CH3)2NHCH2CH3]+CH3COO has to be named.

Concept Introduction:

Refer part “a.”.

For each reaction below, decide if the first stable organic product that forms in solution will create a new C - C bond, and check the appropriate box. Next, for each reaction to which you answered "Yes" to in the table, draw this product in the drawing area below. Note for advanced students: for this problem, don't worry if you think this product will continue to react under the current conditions - just focus on the first stable product you expect to form in solution. NH2 tu ? ? OH Will the first product that forms in this reaction create a new CC bond? Yes No Will the first product that forms in this reaction create a new CC bond? Yes No C $ ©
