Introduction:

Glucose is the principal breakdown product for microbes that feed on complex carbohydrates. As a widespread source of energy, glucose catabolism is important. It is a key substrate for biosynthesis, such as five-carbon sugars, to create nucleic acids. Glucose and associated sugars are catabolized by a sequence of derivatives of phosphorylated sugar. It involves a series of chemical reactions that represents a transformation of glucose to adenosine triphosphate (ATP).
