Introduction:

Each living organism requires energy to carry out their basic life processes. The energy-yielding reactions are termed as metabolic reactions. They are of two types, catabolic and anabolic. The process in which complex or large biomolecules are broken down into simpler molecules with the dissipation of heat is called catabolism. The environmental factors and the intrinsic factors of the organism play an important role in controlling catabolism.
