Question
Chapter 13, Problem 72AP
Interpretation Introduction
Interpretation: Why is it necessary for solvents to be volatile in conventional separation processes? Why isn’t it necessary when employing CO2-switiching technology?
Concept Introduction:
In the solvent switching technology the solvent is reversibly converted from a hydrophobic liquid form to hydrophilic liquid form upon contact with water in the presence of CO2. The reaction is reversible such that the hydrophilic liquid form is readily converted back to the hydrophobic liquid form and water.
