Question
Chapter 13, Problem 4E
Interpretation Introduction
Interpretation:
Litmus paper and the litmus paper test are to be explained.
Concept introduction:
Litmus paper is one of the simplest and oldest methods to determine the acidity or basicity of a solution. This paper is treated with the natural dye that originates from certain species of lichens. A litmus test is done by pouring the sample solution on the litmus paper and observing the color change of litmus paper. The color change is significant, therefore easily detectable.
A litmus test is quite reliable, safe and easy. Hence, it is widely used in school and various laboratories.
