Calculate the larger surface area among tuna fish can and soup can.

Answer to Problem 2CYP

Surface area of tuna fish can = 201.06 sq. cm Surface area of soup can =125.66 sq. Cm

Surface area of tune fish can is larger than surface area of soup can.

Explanation of Solution

Given:

For tuna fish can:

Diameter = $8cm$ ; Radius = 4 cm

Height= 4 cm

For soup can:

Diameter=4 cm; Radius = 2 cm

Height = 8 cm

Calculations:

Here, we have to calculate surface area of cylinder.

We know that, surface area of cylinder is calculated as,

  $Surfacearea=2\pi r^2+2\pi rh$

Where, $r$ is the radius of cylinder h is the height of cylinder

We will calculate surface area of tuna fish can,

  $\begin{array}{l}Surfacearea=2\pi r^2+2\pi rh\\ =(2\times \pi \times 4^2)+(2\times \pi \times 4\times 4)\\ =100.53+100.53\\ =201.060c{m}^2\end{array}$

We will calculate surface area of soup can,

  $\begin{array}{l}Surfacearea=2\pi r^2+2\pi rh\\ =(2\times \pi \times 2^2)+(2\times \pi \times 2\times 8)\\ =25.132+100.53\\ =125.66c{m}^2\end{array}$

From the above findings, tuna fish can have larger surface area than soup can.
