Concept Introduction:Both,an observation and a theory, plays an important role in chemistry. They are not same. So, it is important to distinguish between observations & theories.

Observations are essential in the subject chemistry. Chemists use observations to collect as well as record the data. Theory is a group of connected ideas or concepts intended to describe something. For example: Newton observe the apples fall down from the tree. After this Newton gave a theory that there might be some force, which pull the apples down toward the ground. This theory is known as gravity.
