How are an excluded value and a vertical asymptote of a rational function alike and how they different?

The excluded values of a rational expression are those values that can’t go in the function, that is for which the given rational expression is not defined.
While the vertical asymptote are the points where the function is undefined and it can be found by setting the denominator of the rational function zero. That is, for all the values for which the denominator becomes zero are the points where vertical asymptote occur.
So, vertical asymptotes are also a part of excluded values for any rational equation as for these the equation becomes undefined.
But vertical asymptotes are one that found by solving the equation, while the excluded values are not.
