How is an extraneous solution of a rational equation similar to an excluded value of a rational expression.
Explanation of Solution
An extraneous solution is one which is found by solving the equation but while putting back the value in the given equation, it makes the equation undefined.
While the excluded values of a rational expression are those values that can’t go in the function, that is for which the given rational expression is not defined.
So, extraneous solutions are also a part of excluded values for any rational equation as for these the equation becomes undefined.
But extraneous solutions are one that found by solving the equation, while the excluded values are not.
