Identify the flaws in the experiment design.
Answer to Problem 8CYU
The experimental group and control group should perform the test on same age group people to make any conclusion.
Explanation of Solution
Given information:
A research company wants to determine whether a new vitamin boosts energy level and decides to test the vitamin at a college campus. A random sample is taken. The experimental group consists of students who are given vitamin, and the control group consists of instructors who are given placebo.
Calculation:
There is a flaws in the experiment, the experimental group consists of only students and the control group consists of only instructors. It is obvious that instructors would be of higher age than the students, and the students has more phisical potential even without vitamin.
Hence the result of the experiment cannot be used to determine the effects of vitamine.
To obtained the correct result or remove the flaws the experimental group and control group should perform the test on same age group people to make any conclusion.
