Concept explainers
To find the distance: Between X and T(diagram distance), Y and F(diagram distance), and also ground distance between X and F, X and T, lastly F and T as shown in the table below.
Distance Between | Diagram Distance | Ground Distance |
X and P | 5 cm | 10 m |
X and F | 7 cm | ? m |
X and T | ? cm | ? m |
Y and F | ? cm | 19 m |
F and T | 12 cm | ? m |
Answer to Problem 1WE
The diagram distance between X and T, Y and F is 7 cm and 9.5 cm respectively.
The ground distance between X and F, X and T, lastly F and T is 14 m, 14 m and 24 m respectively.
The results are shown in the table below,
Distance Between | Diagram Distance | Ground Distance |
X and P | 5 cm | 10 m |
X and F | 7 cm | 14 m |
X and T | 7 cm | 14 m |
Y and F | 9.5 cm | 19 m |
F and T | 12 cm | 24 m |
Explanation of Solution
Given information: The diagram distance between X and T, Y and F, also the ground distance between X and F, X and T, lastly F and T is to be evaluated by referring to the diagram given below and the missing values are to be supplied in the table shown next.
Distance Between | Diagram Distance | Ground Distance |
X and P | 5 cm | 10 m |
X and F | 7 cm | ? m |
X and T | ? cm | ? m |
Y and F | ? cm | 19 m |
F and T | 12 cm | ? m |
A student and Pat are partners in a game and both are given clues to win. The student is asked to pick up the next clue at a point that is
- equidistant from the fountain and the oak tree,
- 10 meters from the flag pole, as shown in the diagram next
The student locates X which satisfies both the requirements but grumbles (complains) because there isn’t any other clue at X.
But Pat realizes that both the clues are satisfied at a different location.
The student works on clue 1, and pat works on clue 2. Also 1 cm on the diagram represents 2 m on the ground; blue points are 10 m away from P. Each red point is equidistant from F and T so X and Y meets both the clues.
Proceed towards evaluation of distance between various positions-:
Ground distance between X and F = 14 m.
Diagram distance between X and T = 7 cm.
Ground distance between X and T =
Diagram distance between Y and F =
Ground distance between X and T =
All these results can be expressed in a table as,
Distance Between | Diagram Distance | Ground Distance |
X and P | 5 cm | 10 m |
X and F | 7 cm | 14 m |
X and T | 7 cm | 14 m |
Y and F | 9.5 cm | 19 m |
F and T | 12 cm | 24 m |
