The difference in fats and fatty acids have to be given.

Concept introduction:

Fatty acids are aliphatic mono-carboxylic acids that are mostly obtained from the hydrolysis of natural fats and oils. They have a general formula R(CH2)nCOOH, n is mostly an even number of carbon atoms (4 to 20) with a few exceptions that have an odd number.

Fats are triglycerides made up of one glycerol molecule and three fatty acid molecules. In fat molecules, saturated chains are packed closely together.

They are also considered as the hydrophobic substances which are soluble in the organic solvents and insoluble in water
