Answer to Problem 114A

UF6= 352.02u and 352.02 g/mol

Explanation of Solution

Molecular mass is the sum of atomic masses of the atoms of element present in the molecular formula of the molecule. It represents the mass of one molecule. The molar mass of a compound is the mass of 1 mole of that compound. Unit of molar mass is g/mol. The numerical value of both molecular mass and molar mass is almost approximately same.

The molecular mass and molar mass of UF6 :

UF6= atomic mass of U + ( 6× atomic mass of F)

Atomic mass of U = 238.03 u

Atomic mass of F = 18.998 u

UF6= atomic mass of U + ( 6× atomic mass of F) UF6= 238.03 + ( 6× 18.998) =352.02u

Conclusion

Thus,

UF6= 352.02u and 352.02 g/mol
