Concept explainers
Case summary:
The average human consume his or her own weight every day in the form of ATP (adenosine triphosphate). The human cells consume energy produced by the hydrolysis of 100 to 150 ATPs every day. Each glucose molecule yields 38 ATPs during cellular respiration through the glycolysis, pyruvate processing, Krebs cycle and electron transport chain.
Characters of the case:
As given condition, an average human being produces approximately equal to his or her weight. The given weight of the human is around 70 kg. In resting phase, a person consumes around 25% of the ion transport through the Na+-K+ ATPase daily.
Interpretation:
As the person's weight is 70 kg, he or she would produce 70 kg of ATP per day. In given condition 25% of the total ATPs are consumed through the ion transport mostly via
ATPase.
