Concept Introduction:
E. coli (Escherichia coli) is an anaerobic, gram negative bacterium. Lipids present in the membrane of E. coli belong to a large class of amphiphilic lipids, such as phospholipids, glycolipids, hopanoids, and sphingolipids. The lipids show variation in their composition in different temperature due to structural changes, such as difference in length of fatty acid chains and in number of double bonds.
