EGG OSMOSIS (LABORATORY EXPERIMENTATION)
MATERIALS:
- 3 glasses
- 3 small eggs (Quail eggs, if available)
- vinegar
- Sugar solution (1 teaspoon of sugar in 100mL of water)
- Salt solution (1 teaspoon of salt in 100mL of water)
- Distilled water (Wilkins or H2Zero)
PROCEDURES:
- Removing of Egg Shell
- Carefully pour vinegar in a glass
- Submerge the eggs in the vinegar, make sure the eggs are cover to the surface.
- Soak the eggs for 24 hours.
The vinegar will remove the eggs’ shells. The acetic acid in the vinegar reacts with the calcium carbonate in the shell.
2. After 24 hrs
- Slowly pour out the vinegar leaving a revealed membrane of the eggs.
- Wash the egg slowly.
- Measure the egg, using a tape measure.
Find the circumference of the egg
3. Soaking in 3 different medium
- Soak the 3 eggs to different medium.
- 1 glass contains salt solution (label A)
- 1 glass contains sugar solution (label B)
- 1 Glass contains distilled water (label C)
- Leave it for 24 hours
4. After Soaking
- Slowly remove each egg form the medium.
- Measure again the eggs.
- Compare the circumference of the eggs before and after soaking in the medium
