A great wave of industrial growth spread across the Western
world at the end of the nineteenth century. When inventors
figured out how to mass-produce steel relatively cheaply, tall
buildings rose toward the sky, mighty bridges spanned great
rivers, and factories sprouted up. An ever-growing number of
powerful machines used the newly harnessed power of
electricity and petroleum to transport people and churn out
mass-produced goods. People poured into cities to work long
hours for low wages in dangerous, dirty, dark factories. Many
workers were forced to live in miserable, overcrowded
conditions.

Industrialization was first seen in Britain, however by the early 1800s, many European countries were industrialized. America also was rapidly industrialized. With the knowledge of steam power, steam cars, steam engines, and steamships became popular. As a result, navigation became easy. It was easier to achieve trade commerce due to this. Imperial ambitions of these Nations were also given impetus by these advancements in technology. It was easier to import raw materials and export their products in their colonies.
