A sovereign state refers to a state that has absolute power to decide and act in self-interest and domestic matters without interference from any external influence. In other words, sovereignty refers to the ultimate authority of the states that is not influenced by external forces. In modern democratic states, the national governments derive sovereignty from their citizens.
