During the period 1700s and 1800s, American society was very different from today's society. At that time, there was a presence of slavery in the country. The African slaves were used mainly in the Southern states for working in plantations. Slavery was then restricted from the whole country, during the Civil War. Still, efforts for restricting slavery and uplifting Africans from oppression started in the 18th century only.
