Discuss the 'social' and 'cultural' life of enslaved in spite of bodage.
Any person that was not enslaved by any person in free America was known as Free Black. In the census of 1790, there were very few free black people, however, this number grew steadily in the early 1800s. There were different ways an enslaved person could be free. Free blacks were commonly seen during the Antebellum period. Despite being free, free black people in America were subjected to various hostilities that made their lives very difficult.
