Shequile Jones Master of Social Work, Walden University Dr. Kelly Collins-Colosi October 22nd, 20223
The social worker works at the National Youth Advocate Program in the role play. This agency services youth and adults and has multiple programs within the agency. This agency provides intensive case management services, placement for foster youth, and housing to homeless individuals with chronic mental health issues. During the roleplay, I took the initiative to establish clear and concise ground rules that were mutually agreed upon by my client and me. These ground rules were aimed at ensuring that the roleplay proceeded in a safe and inclusive manner. In addition to this, I shared the agency's confidentiality report with my client to set the standard for maintaining the privacy and confidentiality of any information shared during the roleplay. This was important in creating a comfortable environment where my client could share their thoughts and feelings without any fear of judgment or breach of confidentiality. My aim was to create a professional and ethical roleplay environment where my client felt safe, supported, and respected. My client approached the agency for financial aid as her child support payments had stopped. She was worried about losing her job and being unable to provide for her three children. During the role-play, I tried to empathize with the client by actively listening and showing understanding of her feelings and concerns. I used open-ended questions to encourage her to express herself and paraphrased her issues to ensure that I had a clear understanding of what she was going through. By doing so, I was able to establish a deeper connection with the client and gain her trust and confidence. This allowed me to provide more effective support and guidance and ultimately helped her to feel more empowered to address her challenges. As I began questioning Sara, I noticed a sudden shift in her demeanor. She appeared tense, her body language displaying signs of defensiveness and agitation. During my questioning, I noticed a change in Sara's facial expressions, she started making nervous hand movements and got defensive. Additionally, she did not have faith in the program's ability to work for her. To regain her trust, I disclosed my credentials and level of competency, assuring her that I would do my best to achieve the
desired outcomes. I decided to use a micro-level approach that involved conducting a thorough assessment of the individual's needs to determine the most appropriate resource to meet those needs. Through this approach, we were able to agree that creating a financial plan would be the most effective first step toward formulating a budget. We decided the financial plan would involve identifying the individual's current financial situation, setting financial goals, and creating a budget that would help budget her job checks until we could get her child support payments reinstated.
