2 Define evidence-based practice (EBP) in your own words : EBP is a process in which the practitioner combines well-researched interventions with clinical experience, ethics, client preferences, and culture to guide and inform the delivery of treatments and services NASW (2021). In my own words, evidence-based practice in social work refers to utilizing reliable resources and clinical guidelines to make ethical decisions concerning the client's care. Explain how you can improve your practice and achieve your professional goals by reading articles about practice or attending training and continuing education: Enrolling in continuing education courses in social work can prove to be beneficial for social workers looking to expand their knowledge and skills beyond their specific field. These courses can help individuals bridge any gaps in their learning and provide them with a deeper understanding of topics that may be outside of their expertise. A social worker may have a degree in social work, but they might also be interested in helping clients with substance abuse issues. To better serve these clients, the social worker can choose to become certified in alcohol and drug abuse (CADC), which can improve their skills and knowledge in this area. Also, by investing in continued education and staying up to date on the latest research and developments in social work, professionals can better serve their clients and make a positive impact in their communities. The National Associate of Social Work offers free continued education webinars for social workers looking to maintain their licensure NASW (2021). Participating in training or conferences can significantly benefit your profession as a social worker. These events provide an excellent platform for networking with social workers, which can help establish a supportive

3 system and broaden your knowledge to enhance your practice. Additionally, attending such events can expose you to new ideas and perspectives, which can help you stay up to date with the latest trends and best practices in social work. For example, annually my agency attends the Global Exchange Mental Health Conference. The Global Exchange Conference is a four-day event of continuing educational presentations, workshops, and experiences. The event brings together professionals and organizations from Mental Health, Addiction Treatment, and Holistic Wellness . Attending the conference provided me with an opportunity to network with social workers from across the state. Additionally, it helped me learn about the best practices for self- care in social work. In this week's learning media titled “The Importance of Self-Care”, Peter Meagher stated, “To be at your best as a social worker you need to take care of yourself” (2016, 2021). Explain how you can improve practice by evaluating the outcomes of practice: It is important to evaluate the results of our practice to ensure that the clients we serve receive effective services. One way to evaluate practices is by distributing client surveys and by the client's treatment plan if ap. At my agency, we offer clients who are transitioning in or out of a group home comprehensive plans to help them along the way. These plans include a range of housing goals and adult living skill goals, which are established during the initial intake process by the client. We use these plans to guide the program and ensure that clients have the necessary skills to achieve their goals. During the second week, I aimed to enhance my skills in dealing with challenging individuals, particularly during one-on-one sessions with clients. Unfortunately, I am still facing difficulties in achieving this goal, mainly due to clients who are resistant to change. However, this course has taught me the importance of respecting self-determination even in difficult situations, which is crucial for me as an aspiring social worker.
