PRESENTATION Scientifically Based Intervention Kelly M. Edmunds-Francis University of Phoenix RDG 415: Diagnosis and Remediation of Reading Difficulties Dr. Kristen Goode December 18, 2023 As we go over the presentation for Interventions and how to apply them. We need to realize that there is more to this than just testing and a bad day. We all have bad days and sometimes may not test best. Sometimes we need to look further into the child and see their characteristics with reading. Interventions are key to helping a student succeed in learning to read. If you see a student struggling with reading, you want to know what the furthest they can go. Poor readers with word recognition difficulties generally over rely on textual cues such as pictures and other words to identify words” ( Best Practices in Planning Interventions for Students With Reading Problems | Reading Rockets , n.d.). Reading interventions and can be used in all subjects, is broken into 3 tiers. The first is getting the instruction in the classroom, after testing, students who do not exceed move into tier
PRESENTATION 2. Tier 2 starts to break off into small groups where students can get direction in a more one on one stance. Then tier 3 is the final option if students are not able to satisfactorily meet expectations and here they provide direct support and teaching from a special education teacher and could be pulled for that instruction. Choosing the right intervention is the same as choosing the right textbook. What you choose is based on the students abilities and where you can meet them at. For each time they work in that book/intervention, they will only be adding more and more vocabulary and resources to help them decode words and sounds. Our job is to not just teach, yes, we have standards to follow, but if a student is not at those standards, then we need to reinforce our intervention options. Interventions are a very important part of education, without them, many students would be very behind their peers. These interventions and accommodations make it possible for students who are behind to catch up with their peers and not feel left behind. We know that when things get tough we get frustrated and quit. Interventions make it possible for students to feel as though their education is endless and worth it.
