Jessica Neubert Journal Article Review 1/19/24 Dr. Jacobs Summary
Learning and becoming useful members of society are the goals of education for students. Events that take place beyond the classroom are a part of that education. In addition to develop- ing the social skills they will utilize throughout their lives, students learn how to interact with their classmates in an appropriate manner. Not all social characteristics that are taught, though, are suitable. Any social component that is shown will have an impact on student conduct, whether that impact is favorable or bad. Negative student behaviors frequently result in bullying. In the end, the questions assess students' emotional and behavioral strengths and weak- nesses to ascertain what social influences shape their behavior choices. According to the results of their study, social skills are positively correlated with defending behaviors but negatively cor- related with bullying. Students who experience victimization are not the result of social skills deficits but rather emotional issues like fear and low self-worth (Jones, V. J. 2021). Certain stu- dents assume a defensive role when faced with bullying, and these students also experience emo- tional difficulties.Whether or not a victim or defense will stand up for a student who is being vic- timized depends largely on their social abilities. Students who identify as bullies frequently struggle with executive functioning issues in addition to having poor social skills. It's interesting to note that whereas girls of the same nature will defend, boys with greater executive function tend to refrain from doing so. Refection Although bullying is a very delicate topic, it is being discussed more and more, which provides opportunity to investigate and find solutions for circumstances like these. It is accurate for the researchers to state in their hypothesis that the bully's main characteristic would be their social abilities. The research has highlighted empathy, assertiveness, cooperation, and responsi- bility as social skills (Jones, V. J. 2021). It's shocking to learn that while all of these components
are frequently absent from the lives of an abusive teacher, they are present in sufficient amounts in the victims' classmates. To identify a solution that works for all of the students involved in a bullying situation, more research would be helpful. Additional study would increase our under- standing and offer solutions for teacher and student training and instruction. Scriptural integration Scripture provides strong support for interpersonal relationships and social skills across the whole bible. So if there is any consolation of love, if there is any fellowship of the Spirit, if there is any affection and compassion. Christian unity is impossible without spiritual motivation and divine enablement. Therefore, Paul not only commands the Philippian believers to be like- minded but also provides several reasons.” (Pettit, S. (2020, September 7). In Paul's epistle to the Philippians, the Lord commands us to love one another. Christian educators ought to model this kind of love for their students, as it will strengthen both their social skills and their sense of call- ing from Christ.
