Discussion 6-1 Data State by State In your initial post, describe the state you live in, the violent crime rate for the most recent year available, and any trends that you see in the violent crime rate from the date range that you explored. Explain why this data is important and how it might be used to aid in problem solving in criminal justice. Hi everyone, I hope you are having a wonderful week so far! Using the FBI crime data explorer, I pulled violent crime data from 2012 to 2022 for Texas. From 2021 to 2022 the crime rate has started to decline although it is still above the national average by roughly 51.2. The data was based on 1,063 of 1,220 of the participating law enforcement agencies in 2022. A trend that I noticed is that as the average in the United States spikes Texas also seems to rise in violent crime rates reported. However, from 2019 through 2021 the crime rate drastically increased then in 2022 began drastically decreasing. Where in the U.S. overall there was a spike from 2019 through 2020 when it began decreasing. I also found that the highest offender and victim age reported in Texas was 20–29- year-olds with the highest location type being a residence home. The victim’s relationship with the offender was only about 1,00 off from being a relationship unknown and a stranger. This data is important in helping criminal justice professionals understand how their initiative on decreasing violent crime is working overall in their state compared to the overall average in the U.S. It can also help in finding out what types of weapons are commonly used, or where they need to patrol more. ~Shawna Federal Bureau of Investigation.
