HAT Proposal Kylee R Byrne University of Louisville ECPY 363 Dr. Julie Williams February 3, 2024
For my HAT project, I am proposing to research about microaggressions in the educational field and how it impacts those who have experienced microaggressions in an educational setting. This topic is relevant to the course because microaggression is a form of injustice and inequality to individuals based on their identity. It is important to research and to be educated on how microaggressions can affect those who experience it due to their identity. I am interested in this topic because I currently work in a very diverse elementary school and am on track to becoming a school counselor therefore, it is important that I am well educated on injustices among individuals since I will be around a diverse group of students. Learning about microaggression in an educational setting will also help me be able to identify microaggressions and how to handle situations that may occur. I already know that microaggressions may not seem aggressive or harsh, but they can to the person who is on the receiving end. It is important that you take all opinions and experiences into account and validate others’ opinions because you do not know what they have experienced in life. Words also tend to stick with people for a long time especially words that are hurtful therefore, understanding what is a microaggression can help eliminate them.
