Step 1: Family, in my opinion, is a dynamic and interconnected group of individuals who share emotional bonds, mutual support, and a sense of belonging. It goes beyond biological ties and includes those who are brought together by choice, marriage, or shared experiences. Family provides a foundation for love, understanding, and growth, creating a supportive environment where individuals can navigate life's challenges together. Step 2: My family consists of my parents, my younger sister, and me. I am also close with my grandparents on my mom’s and dad’s sides but especially the ones on my mom’s side. They helped at home while both my parents were at work. That lead to us having a close bond. I was born in Fremont, California. My family moved to India when I was four years old and my sister was just six months old. I grew up in Pune which is a big city in India. My family and I decided that I would come to the United States for my undergrad because of the opportunities and due to the fact that I’m a US citizen. Currently, I am a junior at Ohio State studying Computer Engineering. I do miss my family but I see them every summer and winter break. Step 3: Introduction: The authors likely used Family Systems Theory as the lens for their research because it provides a comprehensive framework for understanding how family dynamics, communication, and relationships impact child survival. Family Systems Theory emphasizes the interconnectedness of family members and how their functioning as a unit affects individual well-being. Study Goals: The goal of the study was to investigate how kin caregivers' family functioning in South Africa influences child survival, with a focus on family attachment, communication, connections, and relationships. Methods: Who was studied? Twenty-four kin caregivers who looked after children under five years old in South Africa. What technique was used to gather the data? The data was likely collected through qualitative methods, possibly interviews or observations, to explore family attachment, communication, connections, and relationships. Results: One factor positively influencing a child's well-being is likely the level of familial ties, cooperation, and engagement of other relatives inside the homes of primary kin caregivers. The study found that family environments can act as both risk factors and protective barriers for child survival. Discussion: Strength:
The study's strength lies in its qualitative approach, allowing for an in-depth exploration of family dynamics and their impact on child survival. Limitation: One limitation could be the small sample size (24 kin caregivers), which may limit the generalizability of the findings. Conclusion: The conclusion emphasizes the significant influence of familial environments on children's survival in South Africa. Your opinion on this conclusion may be influenced by personal experiences or your understanding of family systems theory. Step 4: I noticed a cycle in the Modern Family scene which was that the family was always divided into two groups on a lot of topics based on their school of thought. I think it showcases the divide between family members but in the end everyone wants the family as a whole to succeed. "To All the Boys I've Loved Before" is a movie that can be analyzed through the lens of family systems theory. The Covey family, consisting of Lara Jean Covey and her sisters Margot and Kitty, exhibits clear family dynamics. The communication and relationships within the family play a crucial role in shaping the characters' actions and decisions. Margot, as the eldest, assumes a caregiving role, and the family's functioning is influenced by the interplay of individual roles, responsibilities, and emotional connections, showcasing the principles of family systems theory.
