Liberty University Research Paper: Non-Christian Worldview Assignment Islam Kristen Phillips Religion 104 Professor Love 11 November 2023
Phillips 2 The Question of Origin: In Islam, it is emphasized that Allah is not only the initial Creator but also the sustainer and controller of the entire universe. The concept of Tawhid, or the oneness of God, underscores the idea that all aspects of creation are under the direct authority of Allah. “Indeed your Lord is Allah Who created the heavens and the earth in six days” (Quran, 7:54). After the heavens and the Earth were created, Allah then used the Earth to create the first two humans, Adam and Hawwa (Eve). The Quran describes the creation of Adam and Hawwa (Eve) as a special and intentional act of Allah. It is mentioned that Allah created Adam from clay or dust, and then breathed His spirit into him, making him a living being. Hawwa was subsequently created from Adam. The Question of Identity: According to the Quran, Allah created humans with a soul, conscience, knowledge, and free will. This knowledge allows humans to “distinguish between right and wrong to uphold justice and peace” (Quayyum Raja). Muslims must pray, fast, give alms, make the pilgrimage to Mecca, and must be able to recite the Shahadah. Every Muslim must do these things for their religion on top of living a life of good. On the day of judgment, each person’s deeds are weighed on a balance, and “those whose bad deeds outweigh their good deeds will be damned, but those whose good deeds outweigh the bad will be rewarded with Paradise” (Dean Halverson). The Question of Meaning/Purpose: Islam teaches that the purpose of life is to worship and submit to Allah. According to Islam , “The term ‘Islam’ means ‘submission’ to the will of God, and the person who submits is
Phillips 3 called a ‘Muslim.’” Humans are created by Allah from the same essence for the same purpose and they will one day return to Allah and be judged by Him (Quayyum Raja). It is also expected that Muslims follow the guidance provided in the Quran by Muhammad. The Question of Morality: According to Islamic teachings, it is said that Allah created humans with knowledge of what is right and wrong (Quayyum Raja). The Prophet Muhammad also taught how Muslims should live their lives through the Quran. Some of these teachings include worshiping God alone, speaking the truth, honoring promises, being kind to your neighbors, abstaining from bloodshed, and avoiding obscenities ( What did Muhammad teach ). The Question of Destiny In Islam, Muslims believe in a day of judgment. On this day their good and bad deeds are put on a scale. If the bad outweighs the good, they will be forever damned. If the good outweighs the bad, then they will be rewarded in the Hereafter. “We do not have much knowledge of the Hereafter as stated in the Holy Qur’an ‘And no soul knows what joy of the eyes is kept hidden for them, as a reward for their good works’” (Farhat Mahmood).
