HOPE Church International
Introduction
I love attending my church, HOPE Church International, in Durham, N.C. So, I chose to do my profile on the church I attend. Our church is very notable, family-like, and lively, and most members are African Americans. We have begun to reach out to other communities, such as the white and Latin communities.
There are always many activities happening. We believe that God still has much for us to do and teach us. We, as members, don’t always agree with one another, so we still have much to learn. Our morale is very high in Spirit for all of us who attend our fellowship. We all have a strong sense of excitement about the future of our church.
History
HOPE Church International began as an Outreach Ministry (Operation HOPE), which Pastor Fuller and First Lady Fuller organized with their four children at Ledge Rock Community Center
in the city limits of Durham, N.C., in 2000. It started with ten volunteers to help serve the community, and the outreach grew to 25 people. In 2004, God called Pastor Fuller to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ. So, in that community center, he started with us 25 members of “HOPE Church International.” That same year, he joined the Churches of Sound Doctrine Non-
Denomination Organization. Then, in 2008, we purchased our church with the organization's help. We moved into our sanctuary that same year.
In recent years, Pastor Fuller, as a result, desired to see growth, both spiritual and in numbers, within the church and the larger community, and a little redevelopment took place. We have benefitted from our activities, and we have been able to have conferences and events.
Our Local Community
According to the 2020 census, our town had a population of 284,362, of whom 45.65% are white, 36.15% are black, 13% are Latin, and 6% are Asian. We have many young adults in our town and our church.
Church Membership
HOPE Church International now has 200 members, and about 140 are regular attendees. There are 90% women and 10% men, 5% whites that attend, and no Latin and Asian members that attend our church. All our new members must attend the New Members class for two weeks. The New Members Class is run regularly throughout the year. We have a children's church every Sunday. We also have a Leadership Team that comprises our Pastor, Trustees, Finance, Ministers, Elders, Deacons, Deaconess, and Evangelism. Also, the Leadership Team is formally responsible for pastoral care. Our Religious Beliefs
We believe that God’s Word is the authority of the Bible. We believe faith is the ultimate source of truth and guidance; we also believe in the Trinity (Father, Son, and Holy Ghost). HOPE Church International is a nondenominational affiliation. Believing in salvation through
faith in Jesus Christ and his resurrection and upholding the practice of baptism and communion, we believe in the power of prayer and having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Key Challenge
The Pastor, along with members, sees a great need to connect HOPE Church International with the community and take our outreach ministry international, so through effective evangelism, it can and will draw more new people of faith.

The Four Phases
The Bible itself organized its story into four metanarrative phases of salvation, and they are as follows: The Creation, The Fall, The Redemption, and the New Creation
.
The grand story of God in scripture can be summarized in four phases or like four acts in a play. Once we understand the flow of it, it will help us put the different parts together in the context of the Bible, and it will allow us to see more clearly what role we play in the story of God and join in God’s redemptive work.
1.
The Creation: “
God created the world and everything in it, and it was good. When God created humans, they were made in God’s image, and God said they were VERY Good! The Earth was full of God’s shalom, which means peace. The kind of peace in which everything works according to God’s intention. The world was made for human flourishing; there, we could live in joy in the presence of God as God’s co-workers caring
for this very good creation” (
https://millcitychurch.com/metanarrative/).
So, Genesis 1:1 says, “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth” (
English Standard Version Bible, 2008). Then, God began creating the earth, and once He had day and night established, He started filling the earth by speaking things into existence. But God saved the best creation for the last.
Then, Genesis 1:26 says, “Let us make man in our image after our likeness” (
English Standard Version Bible, 2008).
We are very valuable to God, and we know this because we are the only ones created in His image.
Genesis 1:31 says, “
And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was
very good”
(
English Standard Version Bible, 2008).
Everything God made
was good, but He didn’t think it was good for man to be alone. Genesis 2:18 says,
“
Then the
L
ORD
God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone;
I will make him a helper fit for
him.” (
English Standard Version Bible, 2008).
So, God gave us the first example of the perfect marriage.
2.
The Fall: This is where sin entered the world. “
Humans rejected God’s rule and leadership. They deliberately went away from God’s commands, and their actions declared they believed they were wiser than their creator. This resulted in sin and brokenness entering God’s good creation and disrupting
everything.
Every inch of the earth was touched by the brokenness that swept in. This rebellion results in physical and spiritual death for humanity” (

).
The Fall begins in Genesis 3-11.
It starts with Eve being deceived by the serpent when the serpent makes her doubt
God’s goodness. Genesis 3:1-6 says, “Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God actually say, “You shall not eat of any tree in the garden? And the woman said to the serpent, we may eat of the fruit of the trees in the garden, but God said,
You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree that is in the midst of the garden, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.” But the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. For God knows that when you eat of it, your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” So, when the woman saw that the tree was good for food and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave
some to her husband who was with her, and he ate.” (
English Standard Version Bible, 2008).
Here, Satan’s strategies are to get us to doubt whatever God says and divide us or separate us from the will of God for our lives.
Genesis 3:7 says, “Then the eyes of both were opened, and they knew that they were naked” (
English Standard Version Bible,
2008). From this, they could now see their guilt and shame.
Genesis 3:7 says, “
And they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves loincloths” (
English Standard Version Bible, 2008). Adam and Eve would try to cover themselves with fig leaves.
In the end, the consequences of Adam and Eve's sin not only brought sin into the world, but this sin would affect all of humanity.
3.
Redemption (salvation): “
Thankfully, the Creator is angry towards the sin and brokenness, but so deeply loves humanity and creation that God is determined to redeem the evil and suffering from the disruptive force of brokenness. So this movement shows God implementing a master plan for redeeming the world God loves, rescuing the broken
humans, and healing the broken world. The most climactic part of this plot movement is when, through the Person of Jesus Christ, God comes to renew the world and restore God’s people. The death and resurrection of Jesus inaugurate and unlock the power of the
Kingdom of God, and humans are invited to join in the mission of redemption” (
https://millcitychurch.com/metanarrative/
).
The redemptive story begins in Genesis 12 and beyond.
So, let’s first go back to the garden where sin entered the world.

The serpent was addressed by God first!
Genesis 3:15 says, “I will put enmity between you and the women, and between your offspring and her offspring: he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel” (
English Standard Version Bible
, 2008). This would lead up to the first gospel; through this, God already had a plan, which was Jesus Christ!
Genesis 12 talks about God’s promise to Abram.
First, Abram must go to a new land. Genesis 12:1 says, “Now the lord said to Abram. “Go from your country and your kindred and your father’s house to the land that I will show you.” (
English Standard Version Bible, 2008).
Then, Genesis 12:2 says, “And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great so that you will be a blessing” (
English Standard Version Bible, 2008).
Once Abram had his first son, that was the beginning of the nation of Israel.
God kept his promise to Abram.
4.
The New Creation: ‘
The story doesn’t end with redemption, but rather it continues with hope! God has promised to renew the
whole
world, and the Bible gives us a peak into this
glorious future. The restoration of all things will take place when Jesus returns to defeat sin and evil, and He will usher in righteousness and justice. All the wrong things will be made right, and all the sad things will become untrue. God’s perfect shalom/peace will cover the earth, and God will purge this world of evil once and for all” (
https://millcitychurch.com/metanarrative/
)
The New Creation brings hope that those who have repented and put their trust in
Jesus will forever be with Christ.
But Jesus will return for His final judgment.
Romans 5:1-5 says, “
Therefore since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him, we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope
of the glory of God” (
English Standard Version Bible,
2008).
Romans 8:1 says, “We shall have no fear when Christ returns because “there is no commendation for those who are in Christ Jesus” (
English Standard Version Bible,
2008).
So, God said he would create a New Heaven and Earth.
Isaiah 65:17 says, “For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth, and former
things shall not be remembered or come into mind” (
English Standard Version Bible,
2008).
Then, John said in Revelation 21:1, “Then I saw a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth has passed away and the sea was no more” (
English Standard Version, 2008).
Now, we have been saved from the suffering of our sins; we are presently being saved from the power of sin, and one day, we will be held from the presence of sin.
